So tonight I’m reading through the Psalms again. I’ve noticed a huge them throughout, David often refers to night time. I’ve noticed in my own personal life that night time is when it seems God really speaks to me. It’s also the time when my mind is most tested with thoughts of fear or doubt or worry. Here are a few of the verses that talk about night time.
Psalm 16:7
I will praise the Lord who counsels me—
even at night my conscience instructs me.
Psalm 17:3
You have tested my heart;
You have visited by night;
You have tried me and found nothing evil;
I have determined that my mouth will not sin.
I also really like this verse
Psalm 16:9
Therefore my heart is glad,
and my spirit rejoices;
my body also rests securely
I know that verse doesn’t mention night but it does say “my body” or as I read in other translations, “my flesh rests securely”. This verse was right after verse 7 where David was talking about night time so I really think he is referring to his body resting at night but not only that his body (flesh) resting securely in God.
The past two nights have been a bit of a struggle with me. I haven’t slept well. Last night in particular I could just feel fear and worry trying to creep up on me in my sleeplessness. Tonight as I head to bed I’m so thrilled that God would bring these verses to my attention.
Lord,
As I lay my head on my pillow tonight I surrender myself to you. I surrender my flesh to you. I rest in who you are. You are God. You are bigger than any situation I could face. Thank you so much for you peace. I look forward to waking up refreshed and renewed and ready for a new day. Ready for whatever is next, for another day in my journey on my path towards you.
~Amen
